Mission, Texas, Monday, October 26, 2009. The Silver Lining Foundation and Mission Gardens Resort and RV Park have teamed up to provide extremely affordable new and like new fully furnished manufactured homes and park models to elderly handicapped, disabled and low income* individuals and couples at the Mission Gardens “Over 55” retirement resort which is located at 930 West Expressway 83 in Mission, Texas.
“This is a new and exciting program that will provide a limited number of fully furnished (and fully ADA accessible if required) three bedroom one bathroom manufactured homes and two bedroom one bathroom park models to elderly handicapped, disabled and low income individuals and couples” says The Silver Lining Foundation Founder and Executive Director, Michael Turner. “Through this program we will be able to offer these units for around $7,500, which is a small fraction of their retail cost of $38,500 to $48,500” added Turner.
The final prices of the units, which will be fully installed, hooked up and ready to move into, complete with appliances, beds, a couch and other furnishings, will vary slightly depending upon whether the units are manufactured homes or park models, and what degree of accessibility each unit will require, such as wheelchair ramps, etc. In addition to the up front cost of the unit, there will be a $75/month administrative charge payable to The Silver Lining Foundation for the 18 month compliance period required by the government for this program. Additionally there will be a long term lease required by the resort. Click here for more details.
“This is a real win-win situation” says Ruth Hoepfinger, manager of Mission Gardens Resort and RV Park. “By working with The Silver Lining Foundation and putting up the funds to get the units in place, the resort is providing much needed affordable housing for those in need, while at the same time providing a way for the resort to fill vacant lots with permanent tenants who will be welcome members of our great community” she added.
“It’s too bad that there aren’t more programs like this out there” said Gerald Hoepfinger, Ruth’s husband and co-manager of Mission Gardens Resort and RV Park. “Many elderly persons are on fixed government incomes and find it difficult to make ends meet, especially those who are handicapped and disabled” he added. “Both Ruth and I are proud to be a part of such a great initiative” he added.
The Silver Lining Foundation is offering variations of this program throughout Texas and Louisiana to hurricane disaster victims, low income families, the homeless, families with at-risk children, victims of domestic violence, persons with severe mental illness, persons with HIV/AIDS and to households with children in need of lead based paint remediation.
*(2009 HUD low income standards: Individual = $24,450/year; Couple = $27,900/year)
